6 Days Old

Iyla was the first born. She is clear sable with a white muzzle and wide white blaze. Her ruff is an irregular swirl across her shoulders..

2 Weeks Old

Iyla failed to gain weight at the same rate as the others. While they were uniformly gaining 3 or five ounces per day, for a few days Iyla didn't gain at all! We were participating in VA Tech Veterinary school study so we had vets coming each week to check Carly and pups. I'm writing this at week four. kip ahead to see Iyla blossom...

3 Weeks Old

Iyla begins to gain with one on one nursing with Carly but she still lagged far behind. She also was understandably tired. So we all took a trip to VA Tech Vet and the head Theriogenologist looked at her and the whole litter. (First car ride) She affirmed that Iyla is basically healthy but it was time to go on solids. So Iyla began two cans a day of Royal Canin Puppy food. She may have struggled with nursing effectively, but the girl can clean her plate like a pro.

4 Weeks Old

Iyla gained almost 1 and a half pounds in 6 days! She is adorable playing with her new found energy. Iyla may have been the first pup to learn her name, as she always turns her head and comes running when I call her. Food helps. A note on coat color I strongly suspect Iyla may have two recessive genes for red coat, even though she is a clear sable. She has a pink nose and very blue eyes (which will turn golden or green. See sister Holly in the H litter.
